South West Shropshire Gardening Club
At the January meeting of the SWSGC there were a large number of members and visitors to enjoy Charles Cheshire’s talk. Charles who was born at Milebrook near Knighton, described himself as “garden diplomat and designer”. He worked for a while at Wyvale when it was still a nursery rather than a garden centre but 10 years were spent in the USA where he designed many gardens for wealthy clients, where money was no object. Often these were rooftop gardens. On returning to this country Charles spent time at Burford House gardens. The talk was accompanied by slides showing the changing fashion in gardening over the years, as well as reflecting Charles’ personal evolution, especially in his love of colour, which has mellowed from his previous use of more fiery colours. Charles was thanked most warmly by Heather Williams.
The next meeting of SWSGC is in Lydbury North Village Hall at 7.30pm on 24th February when Paul Hand will be speaking on “Native fruits and spoon making”
