A new Shropshire Hills events and news booklet is available. You can get them from the AONB office in Craven Arms or you can view a very whizzy on-line version here. Just ignore the instructions at the front. The buttons are at the top not on the left.

Scrumpers Donate £60 to Severn Hospice

Clunton Scrumpers have donated £60 from the proceeds of their recent Ceilidh to the Severn Hospice. The balance will be used to update the equipment required for the annual apple pressing in October.

Change of venue for LJC broadband meeting

As we have Rural Broadband on the agenda for our next Local Joint Committee (LJC) 19 meeting on 17 March and Ian Binks, Partnership Manager from British Telecom, has kindly agreed to come to answer your questions, I’m hoping we will get a good turnout. Consequently, rather than hold it at Edgton Village Hall this time, which could be difficult to get to if the weather takes a turn for the worse, we have instead booked the theatre at SpArc. The meeting will start at 7pm.

We hope to go to Edgton Village Hall for our next meeting in May/June.

Borderlines Film Festival

AONB Sustainable Development Fund grants

This is taken from an email from Frances Hall, Community Regeneration Officer (South):

Please find attached EOI and Guidance Notes for the 2010/11 round of the Sustainable Development Fund. Do read the Guidance Notes carefully as the criteria for funding are very specific. If you are interested in this fund you must first contact Cath Landles at the AONB before submitting an EOI.

Please also note the following:

* SDF has been considerably reduced for 2010-11, so competition for funds is high.
* Priority will be given to first time applicants, projects from the eastern side of the AONB, projects that meet SDF and AONB Management Plan priorities and the sustainable development criteria.
* Grants range from £1,000 – £5,000.
* If you are invited to full application, the deadline for submitting your completed application is March 10th 2010.
* The SDF panel will meet on March 24th to consider and award grants.

Great night at the Clunton Scrumpers Ceilidh

There was a good turn out for the Clunton Scrumpers Ceilidh at the Village Hall last Saturday. Good food, music and company and enthusiastic dancing made it a most enjoyable evening. Folks came from as far as Newcastle (on Clun) and Angela sent the following comment:-

“What a warm and friendly time the Newcastle crowd had with you at the Ceilidh on Saturday evening. The musicians entertained us for three hours with lovely melodic music at a pace that even the most amateur ceilidh dancers could cope with. Well done.
The ploughman’s supper was delicious and the desserts scrumptious. We thoroughly enjoyed your company and look forward to revisiting on many more occasions.
Thank you to everyone who shared the evening with us and made us so welcome.”
